Frida
CROSS STITCH PATTERN DESIGNED BY Barbara Ana Designs
Frida Kahlo is an icon to many women and has been considered "one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century" (Tate Modern). Born in Mexico in 1907 to a German father and a mestiza mother, and engaged in a difficult and uncompromising love relationship with Diego Rivera, Frida explored her inner feelings through self-portraits, with her home country's folk culture also featuring prominently in her works.
This tribute to Frida Kahlo, designed by Barbara Ana, features an imaginery self-portrait surrounded by oversize tropical flowers evocative of Mexico's lush climate and rich folk culture, as well possibly of the woman artist's complex feelings.
Frida Kahlo is a recurrent theme in Barbara Ana's needlework designs. See more of her cross stitch patterns dedicated to the artist in the lower part of this page.
