Maria Lhomme Reproduction Sampler
REPRODUCTION SAMPLER PATTERN BY COULEUR TOURTERELLE
Here is a very intriguing sampler, with a palace evocative of Arabian Nights, surrounded by palm trees under a starry sky. It is signed Maria Lhomme but is not dated. Fascinated by this sampler, Meriem Chauvet, designer of Couleur Tourterelle, carried out an in-depth investigation and finally discovered its secret.
We will not disclose it here, as it will be revealed to you in detail in the introductory pages of the chart, supported by beautiful period illustrations. Suffice it to say that this palace really did exist and that its interior was just as splendid as its exterior and enclosed a pool and fountains surrounded with exotic plants. Looking close at the stitched piece you can indeed guess the presence of a large area of water seen through the arches, as well as foliage.
This sampler is part of the private collection of Meriem Chauvet. The cross stitch chart created for Couleur Tourterelle is a faithful reproduction of the original sampler. The latter is not in a very good state of conservation, but there remains enough detail, and identifiable colors on the wrong side, to restitute the central motif, and the paisley border motif.
The original embroidery (see photo comparing the two works side by side and original sampler last photo) was worked in wool on canvas and measures 23 x 18.5 inch (58 x 47 cm). The reproduction sampler is stitched in silk thread on 40ct linen, over 2 threads, and measures 12 x 10 inch (30 x 24.5 cm).
The chart pack includes an additional chart page with the central motif only, should you want to stitch that part of the design only.
All the cross stitches are full and regular, so you can stitch the pattern on any fabric of your choice, whether Aida fabric or linen/evenweave over a single thread.
