Nautical knots
CROSS STITCH PATTERN, DESIGNED BY Perrette Samouiloff
A delightful theme to stitch for summer, these little sailors are practicing nautical knots, and seemingly getting a bit entangled in the process. Their white and blue outfits contrast with the vivid red and white of the life-buoys. Notice the sailor caps with red pompoms typical of the French navy.
Reinforcing the nautical theme are two rows of borders, one with anchors and navigation signs, as well as grades of sea breeze and winds. These can be stitched either in the original French, or in their English translation (additional chart provided): Calm sea, gentle breeze, light breeze.
The cross stitch pattern by Perrette Samouiloff is particularly decorative as well as versatile. The motifs can easily be split and rearranged to be adapted on many projects, including a beach bag or beach towels for instance.
