Miss Mandrake
CROSS STITCH PATTERN DESIGNED BY Barbara Ana Designs
Who is this little character with an oversize head looking at us from below with captivating eyes? It is a mandrake, half-plant, half-woman, represented symbolically in this cross-stitch chart created by Barbara Ana.
The mandrake plant was used in witchcraft's magical rituals. The design shows a witch's coven - you can spot three witches in the lower part - but the emphasis is clearly on the mandrake that occupies the foreground, with a beautiful combination of colors and stylized shapes of leaves and fruit.
