CROSS STITCH PATTERN DESIGNED BY Agnès Delage-Calvet
The focus of this sampler is without doubt the pretty central heart motif, which has been framed with several different decorative borders.
French designer Agnès Delage-Calvet chose friendship as the special theme of this pattern, and the word "Amitiés", French for friendship, appears above the heart. Rows of alphabets and additional borders complete the picture.
Red monochrome works are typical of French style samplers, which also usually include letters. They are derived of the ancient usage of stitching initials on household linen.
The stitched piece is almost entirely worked in cross stitch, although there are some backstitch details and a couple of French knots. The piece was stitched in solid red. It would also look great in overdyed or variegated red floss.
