CHART PACK:
Countryside reproduction sampler dated 1872
REPRODUCTION SAMPLER CHARTED BY MURIEL BERCEVILLE - COUNTED CROSS STITCH
The original piece, from Muriel Brunet's private collection is an antique sampler that was stitched in 1872 and is of French origin.
The piece was originally stitched on canvas using wool and silk threads. Parts of the motif are stitched over one thread, in petit–point, allowing for more detail (cross stitch over one weft and one warp thread).
When you look at the backside of the fabric, you can see that the colors used were rather bright. When charting this pattern , Muriel Brunet preferred to pick colors closer to how they appear today, somewhat faded. A few adjustments were made to the composition to allow for symmetry and more regular spacing but the overall “spirit” is very close to the original.
A faithful reproduction of an antique alphabet, charted by Muriel Berceville.
