What's New? Riverdrift House |
Celebrating the 400th years of the Mayflower voyage A remarkable Sampler by Riverdrift House, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage, from Plymouth, England and to the New World. The pattern is full of interesting cross stitch motifs and historical details. Riverdrift House only uses full cross stitches in their samplers, making them a quick and pleasant stitch.
Samplers forever Living in the English countryside and a great lover of antique needlework samplers, the Amanda Stevenson, Riverdrift House's designer, draws much of her inspiration in traditional motifs, yet giving them a modern twist and personal touch. She has designed many a gorgeous sampler for Riverdrift House, such as the exceptional Sampler featured right that was created for the bi-centenary of the death of Jane Austen and hangs today in Chatsworth House, Derbyshire. Full Cross Stitches, that's it No backstitching, no fractional stitches. Amanda Stevenson consistently only uses cross stitches for every one of her patterns. Keep it pure and simple seems to be her leitmotif. This does not mean the designs are not intricate, quite the contrary. It does however make for easy and pleasant stitching from beginners to expert. Indeed expert stitchers will appreciate stitching these patterns on linen and on very fine fabric counts, including over one thread and make beautiful miniatures.

Maritime motifs In Cornwall, wherever you are, you are never far from the sea. Amanda Stevenson says she likes gazing at the bit of Cornwall which is right outside her windows. Ships of all kinds including clippers, flags and bunting flying in the wind, seagulls and other seaside birds, all these maritime motifs are recurrent themes in her work, either as main designs (see below) or tiny nautical motifs that have slipped into her sampler (see right).
