Blackwork Willow 1
CROSS STITCH PATTERN DESIGNED BY Lesley Teare Designs
This is part One of an exquisite pair of chinese landscape cross stitch patterns designed by Lesley Teare. It depicts a quiet scene in a riverside garden. In the foreground is a summer pavilion, placed in a special spot so as to better rest and enjoy the garden views. The architecture and ornamentation is typical of ancient chinese buildings, with a hexagonal shape and curved roof. Flowers and lush vegetation surround the pavilion. The railing in front, with typical copper fittings provides a little privacy.
Further out, three men can be seen, fishing from a bridge over the water. A tradesman hauls its load in a boat passing by. Another pavilion or maybe a temple faces us on the other side of the bank. The impression emanating from the scene is is very serene.
A series of lace-like Blackwork motifs, encased in square boxes, forms a frame all around the stitched piece.
The design is stitched in a mix of blues and black, with golden highlights, and is evocative of the ornementation found on 18th century Chinaware. Both cross stitch and Blackwork is used (fine lace-like motifs worked in backstitch).
A tutorial is included with the chart for fractional stitches used for detail of the birds and far-away characters.
